Itinerary

DAY 1: Cusco – Pilcopata.

Departure from the city of Cusco very early in the morning in one of our specially equipped vehicles for the route. We will cross interesting inter-Andean valleys and picturesque peasant communities. In the middle of the morning we will visit the Pre-Inca Tombs of Ninamarca, known as Chullpas, and then go to Paucartambo, a typical colonial town of great importance at that time and still retains its flavor. Continuing the trip we will ascend to the Abra de Acjanacu at 3,850msnm. From here we begin the descent through the Cloud Forest, an area rich in endemic species such as the Bear of Spectacles and Gallito de las Rocas, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc. Already in San Pedro we will visit a lek de Gallito de las Rocas in whose place these imposing birds meet every morning and in the afternoons to make an interesting dance of cortejo “Displays” after this we will continue our journey until arriving at Pilcopata where we will pass Our first night.

DAY 2: Pilcopata – Atalaya – Collpa de Mamíferos.

After breakfast we continue our journey by bus, crossing the high jungle, arriving at the port of Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River, 700msnm. Place from where we will begin the descent by the river in motor outboard (55HP). On the river banks we can observe the enormous diversity of species of birds, such as herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. After a few hours we will reach hot waters where we will have the opportunity to take a comforting bath, after three in the afternoon we will arrive at our Shelter where we will accommodate, we will provide water and then make an average hour hike where we will have the possibility to see the impressive Tapires consuming salts in a mammal Collpa, after this show we will return to the hostel where we are waiting for our delicious Dinner.
Option: tonight it is possible to spend the night in the middle of the forest on a platform to wait for the arrival of tapirs in case we can not see them.

DAY 3: Yanayacu – Boca manu – Blanquillo.

In the morning we will continue our trip down the river in our boat, after a few hours we will arrive to the town of Boca Manu, we will hike a short distance to the Cocha de los Valles (lake) where we will embark on a catamaran to find a suitable place to spur Birds and fish piranhas, we will return to the village where we can buy some beers, continuing our journey downstream we will arrive at our hostel where we will settle for the night.

DAY 4: Macaw Collpa – Boca manu

Very early before breakfast, using a fully camouflaged hideaway in front of the Macaws Clay Lick, a clayey river wall where different species of parrots and macaws come down every morning to extract minerals needed for their dietary balance.
Parakeets, Amazon parrot, blue-headed parrots, give birth to an unforgettable spectacle of colorful wildlife and finally the fabulous Macaws. At the end of this daily activity we will return to the lodge.
In the afternoon we will take a walk, we will arrive at Cocha Camungo, where there is a 42 meter high metal tower from whose platform you can see the entire surface of the lake.
Arriving at the lake shore we will go on a catamaran to take a paddle, past the day the guide to an introduction of alligators and then proceed to identify them and if possible to capture a copy. Already at the hostel we will have our dinner and a well-deserved rest.

DAY 5: Boca manu – rio alto Madre de Dios.

After breakfast we will start our return trip laughed up, and in Boca manu we will provide fuel to continue our journey, at sunset we will camp on a beach on the banks of the river where we will spend the night in tents.

DAY 6: Rio alto Madre de Dios – Pilcopata Cusco.

Very early we will continue our trip until arriving at Atalaya where our car will be waiting for us to take us to the city of Cusco.
